Secrets Are for Sharing – BVI’s Special Spots
The British Virgin Islands are famous for their turquoise waters, iconic anchorages, and lively beach bars—but for seasoned sailors, there’s always more to discover. At Horizon Yacht Charters, we’re lucky to have a crew of captains, instructors, and seafarers who know the BVI like the back of their hands. They’ve shared with us some of their favorite “secret” spots—hidden anchorages, off-the-beaten-path snorkel sites, and special places that make a charter truly unforgettable.
Here’s a peek into their insider map of paradise:
Imogen’s Picks
-
Mountain Point ‘Cow’s Mouth’ Arch – Slip beneath the surface and you’ll find a spectacular arch, alive with marine life and perfect for snorkeling in calm conditions. Pick up a mooring ball in Long Bay and take the dinghy over to Mountaine Point, dive in and explore!
-
The Caves at Norman Island – Already legendary, but Imogen hints at something more… a hidden bottle of rum tucked away in the caves if you know where to look.
Cara’s Favorites
-
White Bay, Guana Island – Quiet, picturesque, and a stunning place to drop anchor.
-
Benures Bay, Norman Island – A tranquil anchorage with plenty of space to relax away from the crowds.
-
Pomato Point, Anegada – A slice of pure island beauty, perfect for a serene stop.
Dom’s Hidden Gems
-
The Lava Flow (opposite Guana Island) – A striking and unusual rock formation best admired from the water. Be aware that its exposed to the North Swell and is better seen from a distance.
-
Fallen Jerusalem (near The Baths) – A smaller, less-traveled version of the Baths, with massive granite boulders and incredible snorkeling. Pick up the mooring ball – no anchoring!
-
Lee Bay, Great Camanoe – A secluded anchorage offering peace, privacy, and excellent swimming.
Noah’s Special Spots
-
Key Cay, Peter Island – A tucked-away treasure, perfect for a quiet afternoon.
-
White Bay, Peter Island – A stunning stretch of sand with crystalline waters.
-
Eustatia Sound – Less visited, more natural, and ideal for those looking to escape the bustle. Head out on the dinghy through the cut between Saba Rock and The Bitter End to the inside of Eustatia Reef. Pick up the orange buoy closer to Eustatia Island and spend the afternoon exploring Eustatia Sound. Lots of reef, so keep your eyes peeled!
