BVI Entry Requirements

BVI Entry Requirements

Before booking your trip to the BVI, it’s essential to be aware of the British Virgin Islands’ entry requirements. We’re pleased to provide information on BVI entry requirements to assist our charter guests.

BVI Entry Requirements from North America:

U.S. citizens travelling by air to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda must present a passport or other WHTI-compliant documentation to enter or depart from the United States. In keeping with the regulations set out by the US Department of State, passports will be required for all US citizens. Horizon Yacht Charters advises guests to check the details on the US Department of State’s website.

Passports are required for all Canadian citizens.

BVI Entry Requirements from Europe:

Passports are required for all United Kingdom citizens. European citizens need a valid passport to enter the British Virgin Islands. However, visitors that are residents of certain countries require a visa to enter the BVI.

BVI Entry Requirements from the Caribbean:

Please note that citizens from some islands may need to obtain a visa to visit the British Virgin Islands. Visitors from these Caribbean islands need to have a visa to enter the BVI.

Customs & Immigration

Customs and Immigration offices are located on Tortola in Road Town and the West End, on Virgin Gorda in the Virgin Gorda Airport, St. Thomas Bay Terminal, and the Owen Harrigan Visitors Centre at Gun Creek and on Jost Van Dyke in Great Harbour.

BVI Entry Fee

Note that an environmental levy of $10 per head is payable on arrival by all visitors to the British Virgin Islands (effective 1st Sept 2017).

The NEW BVI Customs & Immigration Portal

When you arrive in the BVI you’ll be required to fill out a customs and immigration form, however the BVI government has recently introduced an online system in the hopes to provide more convenience to travelers through all ports of entry. The portal works as follows:

  • You’ll be required to complete the online Immigration and Customs Form which will be available 72 hours prior to your arrival in The British Virgin Islands.
  • Fill in the form at a time and place convenient for you.
  • Once the form is completed, the Immigration and Customs receipts are to be saved to your mobile device or printed and presented to Immigration and Customs upon arrival.
  • What you’ll need:
    • Flight Information
    • Passport of Passenger
    • Copy of Passport’s Biodata Page (PNG or JPEG file)

You can find the link to this portal here.
